Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives Scholar of the Year Banquet and Presentation Held

SIOUX FALLS, SD -- Scholars from across eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota converged upon the Augustana College campus on May 9, 2009 to be honored at the Touchstone Energy® “Scholar of the Year” Banquet and Presentation.
The event recognized the local Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives “Scholars of the Week” throughout the 2008-2009 school year.
During the school year, a “Scholar of the Week” was featured by KSFY-TV and awarded a $100 scholarship.
East River Electric Cooperative General Manager Jeff Nelson drew the names of three scholars who were awarded scholarships for the upcoming school year. Hanna Larsen, a Northern Electric Cooperative sponsor from Groton Area High School had her name drawn for a $1,000 scholarship.
$500 was awarded to Ethan School District scholar Cory Wegehaupt, who resides within the Central Electric Cooperative service territory and Travis Nordgaard, a Canby High School scholar and H-D Electric Cooperative member.
"Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives have long been committed to the members that we serve. The “Scholar of the Week” program is an opportunity for us to honor some of the brightest leaders of tomorrow and to acknowledge the influence and impact that they will have upon our communities," Nelson said.
Nancy Davidson, Vice President for Enrollment at Augustana College, gave the scholars advice about their upcoming first year of college.
“I encourage you to consider the life you want to live,” Davidson said. She went on to add that each decision, experience and relationship has shaped who they are.
Davidson told students that they should study what they love and gain appreciation for what they don’t. She then discussed ways to excel throughout their collegiate careers. “Expand your scope, get to know people different than you and celebrate who you are,” she said.

The annual event is sponsored by local Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives, Augustana College and KSFY-TV.
