With the bid for construction secured, the new addition and renovation for East River Electric Power Cooperative’s Headquarters building will soon begin.
On Thursday, April 1, 2010, Amert Construction of Madison was awarded the contract for the nearly 17,000 square feet addition and subsequent renovation of the existing building located at 121 SE First St. in Madison.
“We look forward to beginning our third and final phase of our building replacement and life extension project and are especially pleased that Amert Construction will again be the general contractor for such a vital step in serving the needs of our members for many years to come,” said Jeff Nelson, East River general manager.
Amert Construction was also the general contractor for East River’s Service Center and most recently the cooperative’s Electronics Technology Center.
“We see the investment in infrastructure by East River Electric as an investment in our economy over the next 60 years and we appreciate being chosen as the general contractor,” said Don Amert, co-owner of Amert Construction.
The addition and renovation will provide additional office space and a training facility to better accommodate employee needs and will also improve the layout and functionality. The current East River Electric workforce totals 122.
The building will showcase Leadership in Energy Efficiency Design (LEED) certification, a national standard for energy efficiency buildings.
“East River and its members have a responsibility to demonstrate energy savings to our end-consumer members. LEED certification will enable us to model many of these strategies,” said Scott Parsley, assistant general manager of member services at East River.
Nelson added that utilizing Madison-area subcontractors will also have a positive impact on the local economy. These include Reinicke Construction, Steve Alverson Masonry, Barger Electric and Johnson Brother’s Excavation.
The addition is scheduled for completion by spring 2011, with the renovation estimated to be finished by winter 2011.
