Electric co-ops celebrate 10 years, 160 economic projects in region
The City of Luverne Economic Development Authority constructed a facility that now houses Continental Western Group. Continental Western Group is a leading provider of commercial insurance services and expertise to a wide range of businesses through out the Midwest and Pacific Northwest utilizing the independent agency system. Continental Western Group is a member of W.R. Berkley Corporation, recognized as one of the most respected names in the property casualty insurance industry.
Lake Area Improvement Corporation used financing to construct the Heartland Technology Center. The Tech Center provides office space to technology businesses.
Madison Farmer's Elevator used financing to assist in the construction of a new grain elevator facility located in Ramona, South Dakota.
The Rutland School used loan funds to help finance the purchase of electronic equipment and to remodel a classroom for distance learning. This was done in the spring of 1997 with a consortium of seven other schools (East Central Interconnect). Supt. Dalton Williams prophetically characterized the project at the time of the application as "having many exciting possibilities for the future of the Rutland School and our students. With technology changing so fast, it's hard to realize all the possibilities." The project has indeed grown countless opportunities for students, though the independence of the original ECI schools has been traded for full participation in the now state wide video conference system called the Digital Dakota Network.
Southridge Feedyard, L.L.P. used loan funds to construct an enclosed cattle-feeding facility near Elkton, SD.
